Canadian Hi Powers to Ukraine or the Crusher

I read that Canadian politicians have a dilemma. Some want to destroy the P-35’s that their military has kept since the second world war (saving 500 for museums) while others want to send them to Ukraine.

My first P-35 was an Inglis Hi Power (Chinese contract). I sold it long ago, for more than it cost to replace it with a Turkish clone. It’s kind of interesting – my old Canadian made Inglis was never termed a clone, but the Turkish copy is. Neither was made by Fabrique National in Belgium – I suppose clone wasn’t so commonly uses in 1940. My first Hi Power looked like the photo below – it had an optimistic rear sight set up for 500 yard shots – the regular Canadian pistol sights were more realistic.

I hope the Canadians send the old pistols to Ukraine. Destroying them for no better reason than to make anti-gun Canadians feel good would be a bad thing. Far better that some corrupt Ukrainian gets a chance to preserve them. I sold my old Inglis (and it didn’t have Chinese ideographs” because it was more valuable to a collector than a shooter. They served when Canadians did much more than their share in WWII.
