Look for us on Tuesdays

Weird words: Petrichor, stone’s blood.
Stepping outside after this weekend’s much-needed downpours, I was met with a familiar fragrance. The smell of earth after rain, sometimes called “petrichor”…

Thinking About Smoke
As I went for the allergy meds this morning, I thought of Wylie Osler. For those who never had the opportunity to know Wylie, I can only wish that I had a record of all his stories – Wylie…
Fiberfest
There are volumes written on what I don’t know about wool fiber and the process of turning fleece into yarn. Present was fiber from sheep, angora rabbits, and alpacas. Being a crafter that neither knits, crochets, or felts, I was dazzled by all the pretty yarns. There was an array of unprocessed wool fleece to completed wool garments with many examples of batts and yarn in between. Several booths featured someone spinning yarn as well as spinning wheels for sale. Outside the buildings was a petting zoo. In the youth building was a quilt show sponsored by the mini-makers. College and Student Debt
I saw the graph below in an article on, obviously, college degrees and debt load, at ZeroHedge. The article is worth a look – the author points out that “a significant percentage of the 48,000 students who enroll in history programs for their undergrad studies literally believe that they eventually will become a history professor. Our Predicted Weather
These maps show our weather predictions for November-December-January (taken from NOAA website). It looks like above average precipitation for us, and normal temperatures. Personally, I think that means “put the plow on the front of the tractor and the snowblower on the back.” To some it may mean “Fill the woodshed.” Next year’s predictions for…

More on Yugos
As I started getting the old Yugo back on line, I developed an interest in the Zastava lines (Yugos in their home country). When I bought the little car, I paid $999 for a little car with 18,000 miles, and I classified it as a disposable car. As it passed 60,000 miles with no significant problems – nothing ever broke that I couldn’t fix in a parking lot – I realized that the Yugo wasn’t nearly so bad as stories were. Stories? I can’t be certain, but I’m willing to bet that the folks who write tales of the Yugo…
