Sometime in the mid-seventies, I read The Monkey Wrench Gang, and learned of Edward Abbey’s views on eco-terrorism. It was a good read – and you don’t need to agree with everything a fiction writer puts to paper to appreciate the work.

At 25, I liked the above comment. At 76, I am glad to have the memories of the trails he described.

He saw things differently – yet I am not convinced that he was wrong on everything. I can’t mill a log without being down on spikes in trees – and I remember folks who believed they were helping the environment while, in their ignorance they damaged it.

Kind of an early description of the Dunning-Kruger effect.

And I did encounter the scum that floats to the elite positions.
