This chart shows the percentage of democrat donors within each occupation. It’s one of those things where we can view a single action and project an understanding of the profession’s political norms. I’m not a bit surprised that English profs were high on this chart – or that psychotherapists, psychoanalysts, and social workers scored high in the blue. It interested me that union organizers were at the top of the blue, while miners scored as the least democrat of occupations. There’s a lot of difference between where the working miners were in 1910 and today – I have never been a member, but I don’t believe you could convince me to go underground in a mine that wasn’t UMWA.
