This evening I watched a Bald Eagle trying to take some of the young geese. It’s a different scene than it was while the old gander ran the pond – since he died (or to be more precise, failed to return) the task of raising goslings has moved to younger, less experienced geese. This time, they didn’t have time to hustle the goslings into the pond. Their strategy was to stay close to the garden fence – and that brought the eagle’s dives over one of the little red-wing’s harem. Which brought the red-wing into the eagle’s face.
None of the birds like the bald eagle – so it wasn’t surprising to see three crows move in on the little blackbird’s side. Harassed by four smaller birds, the eagle landed in a tree . . . and the geese made it into the safety of the pond.
